Have you ever wondered what Penny from The Big Bang Theory does to her hair in the first few seasons? You have probably seen a huge lump on her head, which, to be honest, makes her look gorgeous.
The big bump is also known as a pompadour. Now, I don’t know how Penny makes her pompadour, but I use a straighter for it. If you want to know how to bump your hair with a flat iron, scroll down and see my way of doing it.
Things You Need to Bump Your Hair
- A Comb
- Bobby pins
- A flat iron (Take a look at a few straighteners of Nume)
- A heat protectant
- A rubber band (optional)
- Hair Spray
The Steps to Making a Bump with a Flat Iron
Giving a bump to your hair or making a pompadour with a straightener is relatively easy. Follow the steps mentioned below to avoid complications.
Step 1:
First of all, you will need to section off your bangs with a comb. You can do it the way you want the pompadour to be but make sure to start from the crown. Clip your bangs off with a bobby pin.
Step 2:
After sectioning your bangs, take the rest of your hair and tie it up with a rubber band, so it doesn’t come in the way of your original task.
Step 3:
Use a protectant spray to keep your hair and scalp safe from heat damage.
Step 4:
Section your bangs into a few parts, depending on the thickness of your hair. If you have thick hair, you can make three layers. If you are going with three, then clip off the middle and front sections with bobby pins separately.
Step 5:
Heat up your straightener and make sure it suits the texture of your hair. Keep in mind that you will need specific straighteners for thick rough hair. Now, start by flat ironing the third section of your bangs. Give a little bend like a reverse ‘U’ to give it a little lift.
Step 6:
Remove the clip from the second layer and repeat the process. When you are working on the second section and giving it a bend, make sure to hold the flat iron at the end for a while. This will lift the layer upward. Do the same with the first layer as well.
Step 7:
Apply hair spray to your hair and then backcomb it. Afterward, you will need to flip it and then smoothen it with a comb.
Step 8:
When you have your desired look, take the ends at the back and twist them and hold it with one of your hands. Now use some bobby pins to lock off the pompadour.
Now take the rest of the hair without disturbing the bump and make a half or full ponytail. That’s it you have your full-fledged pompadour.
Styling Tips
There are many options you can explore with the pompadour style. However, you will get the best results only when you possess a high-end flat iron. I would suggest you browse through some Babyliss items just to stay on the safe side.
You can add a flower to the side of your hair, or you can even wear a bandana to the crown. Furthermore, you can straighten your ponytail with a touch of bend to add some volume to it. Try out the different styles and see which one compliments your look the best.
